On Wednesday 30 April 2025, at 10:00, at the Crypt of the Holy Spirit in the rock village of Lama Don Angelo, the Municipality of Monopoli will present to the press and institutions the results of the restoration of a portion of frescoes that re-emerged inside the crypt.

For years, the Municipality of Monopoli has undertaken, in collaboration with the Superintendencies, the Puglia Region and the University of Bari, a path to enhance the cultural and landscape assets of the area.

A key element of this strategy is the “Adriatic Coast of the Trulli Cycle Path”, a slow tourism backbone that will connect over 20 km of cultural, natural, historical and archaeological attractions. Among these, the rock village of Lama Don Angelo and the Crypt of the Holy Spirit play a central role.

The restoration of the frescoes was made possible thanks to funding obtained by the Municipality through the public notice provided for by the Regional Law. December 30, 2021, no. 51, art. 48 (“Protection and enhancement of the rock churches present in the regional territory”). The restored frescoes had been covered by whitewash for centuries and had never emerged until today.
